AB 1248 – Senate Governance and Finance Committee

Local Independent Redistricting

AB 1248 would have required a city, county, or elected educational district that contains over 300,000 residents to establish an independent redistricting commission that would adopt district boundaries after each census. We must make certain that every vote matters by ensuring that communities are drawn into districts that reflect their lived experience following fair maps principles to draw electoral maps for cities and ensuring that counties do not prioritize politics over people.
