OAKLAND, CA — Today, MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving announced California Environmental Voters Education Fund (EnviroVoters Ed Fund) as one of the Yield Giving Open Call’s awardees for our work education and mobilizing around climate justice

In March 2023, Yield Giving launched an Open Call for community-led, community-focused organizations whose explicit purpose is to enable individuals and families to achieve substantive improvement in their well-being through foundational resources. The Ed Fund is one of just 361 organizations to be awarded from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

“We are deeply honored to receive this generous award, which will further empower us to tackle the urgent challenges posed by the climate crisis and advance justice for all communities. This award underscores the critical importance of our work in advocating for bold climate policies and holding lawmakers accountable,” said Mary Creasman, Chief Executive Officer, Ed Fund. “We extend our sincere gratitude to Yield Giving and Lever for Change for their support to our cause. We will continue to be committed to leading the way in driving climate action and advocating for a more just and equitable world.”

A year ago, Yield Giving launched an open call for community-led, community-focused organizations to apply for this honor. The Open Call received 6,353 applications and initially planned for 250 awards of $1 million each. Last fall, after receiving high marks from our peers, EnviroVoters was among the organizations that advanced to a second round of review by an external evaluation panel, and underwent a final round of due diligence. In light of the incredible work of these organizations, the donor team decided to expand the awardee pool and the award amount to $640 million over 361 organizations.

“We are excited that our partnership with Yield Giving has resonated with so many organizations,” said Cecilia Conrad, CEO of Lever for Change. “In a world teeming with potential and talent, the Open Call has given us an opportunity to identify, uplift, and empower transformative organizations that often remain unseen.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS

California Environmental Voters (formerly the California League of Conservation Voters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
