CLCV and I lost a friend yesterday, a generous and talented human being, Doug Ring. Doug, with his wife, former LA City Councilmember Cindy Miscikowski, were generous supporters of CLCV. Doug and Cindy hosted many events for CLCV in their art filled home, always providing a gracious, inviting environment, great food and the warmth of their presence. Doug was famously generous, contributing much to the cultural life of the City of Los Angeles through his comitment to the Museum of Contemporary Art and leading the succcessful effort to restore and improve LA’s historic downtown library.

I got to know Doug through my work at CLCV and through politics generally. We met frequently when I was on the Coastal Commission to talk about his projects and his struggle to provide affordable housing for more than just the elderly at his projects in Marina del Rey. As a lapsed artist myself, I was enthralled by the taste and breadth of his amazing art collection. On each visit to his home he would dazzle me with some new work and always provided a witty story about the art and the artist. He was an interesting, cultured and decent human being. I will miss him.

We at CLCV mourn his loss. We extend to Cindy our heartfelt sorrow at his passing and want her to know we are thinking of her in this very difficult time.
