SACRAMENTO, CA — Today, California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) released the following statement in response to Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committee hearings, where EnviroVoters’ priority oppose bill SB 34 made it through and priority support bills, SB 601 and AB 1020, died. The remainder of EnviroVoters’ priority bills will have their final votes in the Assembly and Senate by Sept 12th.
Statement from Melissa Romero, Policy Advocacy Director, California Environmental Voters:
“Assembly Appropriations and leadership dropped the ball today. This legislative session has been defined by handouts to corporations and giveaways to Big Oil. In a year that started with our most devastating climate disaster in history and has been marked by corporate polluter-driven disasters driving up costs on energy, insurance, water, and food, state leaders are out of step with voters. Poll after poll shows voters want their representatives to hold corporate polluters accountable and invest in a healthy, resilient, and affordable future. The Legislature only has two weeks left to deliver on clean transportation, resilience and nature-based solutions, and energy affordability for their constituents.”

ABOUT CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL VOTERS
California Environmental Voters (EnviroVoters) believes the climate crisis is here and this moment requires transformative change. California has the policy solutions to stop climate change but lacks the political will to do it at the rate and scale that’s necessary. EnviroVoters exists to build the political power to solve the climate crisis, advance justice, and create a roadmap for global action. We organize voters, elect and train candidates, and hold lawmakers accountable for bold policy change. We won’t stop until we have resilient, healthy, thriving communities, and a democracy and economy that is just and sustainable for all.
